All will be quiet at Lambeau Field this weekend for the Packers bye, but across Oneida Street, the Resch Center is gearing up for one of its loudest weekends of the year.

Monster Jam takes over the arena Saturday and Sunday for three shows, and there will be no mistaking the noise made by Grave Digger, El Toro Loco, Wild Thang, Midnight Rider, Thunder 4×4 and Mechanical Mischief.

A popular family event at the Resch each spring, this is the first time the monster trucks are roaring through in the fall for a visit strategically timed during a Packers-free weekend.

Here’s 10 fast facts about those super-sized dream machines built for high-powered bursts of speed up to 100 mph:

1. They weigh a ton and then some. Required minimum weight for a Monster Jam truck is 10,000 pounds, but some are as heavy as 12,000 pounds. That doesn’t stop them from flying through the air as high as 35 feet and distances of up to 130 feet.

2. They’re BIG. Most trucks are 12 feet tall and 12 feet wide.

3. They’re not cheap. The average cost of a truck is $250,000.

4. They make their own track in each city. It takes a crew of eight about 18 to 20 hours over three days to create a track and jumps at the arenas and stadiums that host Monster Jam. At the Resch, the hockey ice has to come out first to make way for the 70 truckloads of dirt that will be hauled in on Friday to transform the arena floor.

5. They eat cars for lunch. Full-size cars are the most common vehicle crushed by trucks, but vans, buses, motor homes, airplanes and ambulances are also attained from local junkyards and then returned after each event. Monster Jam crushes about 3,000 cars every year.

6. They have tires taller than people. Tires must be 66 inches high and 43 inches wide. They’re hand cut to accommodate track conditions and reduce weight. Cutting one tire takes 50 hours. The average cost per tire: $2,600.

7. They don’t run on your average engine. The custom-built, methanol-injected and super-charged engines run about $50,000. Most teams will go through five engines each year.

8. They require some serious shocks. Most Monster Jam trucks run with nitrogen gas shocks. Some trucks run with one shock per tire, while others with as many as two per tire. The complete shock package includes a coil-over-shock kit and spring that costs $1,600.

9. It’s not just the trucks that cost money. Each truck’s race team spends an average of $250,000 each year on everything from truck repairs and maintenance to racing uniforms and lodging.

10. They draw a crowd. More than 4 million people attend Monster Jam events in North America, Canada and Europe annually.
