Jasmine tea is a tea variety, which is scented with the aroma of blossoms from the jasmine plant. Usually, green tea is used as a base. Blossoms from common jasmine or sampaguita (Jasminum sambac) are stored with tea leaves or blended with them. One of the things people want to know about this type of tea is does jasmine tea caffeine? In this article we want to ask this question and tell you about its making process and health benefits.
Jasmine tea making process
Tea makers usually start with a base like green tea, but sometimes they base on black or white tea leaves to make jasmine tea. Then they combine them with a preferred flavor. When producers make jasmine tea, they scent the tea leaves with jasmine flowers.
This process takes place in the evening as jasmine flowers create their brightest scent after the sunset. After that, the flowers are placed on the leaves in layers to let the blooms release their scent right into the tea leaves.

Pure jasmine tea doesn’t contain caffeine. But in the majority of cases it is blended with other tea types. That’s why jasmine tea is considered as blended, scented, or flavored green tea. So it turns out that it has a similar amount of caffeine as pure tea. Depending on the tea variety and the number of tea leaves you use, it can be 20-60 mg of caffeine per cup. With green tea it contains about 25 mg of caffeine per cup, while with black tea – 45-50 mg.
Caffeine in tea depends on many other factors as well. For instance, growing conditions, brewing method, and processing methods influence final caffeine content too. 1 minute steep will result in 50% less caffeine content than a 3-minute steep. Caffeine content is relatively high if tea contains more tips and younger leaves.
Different jasmine tea blends will have less caffeine than pure jasmine. If we take a herbal tea as a base for jasmine tea, there will be no caffeine at all.
