What Does Aloe Juice Taste Like?

Video what does aloe vera taste like

One of the more common questions we hear asked at AloeCure is, “What does the aloe juice taste like?” The answer may be in the name of the plant itself. The word “Aloe” is derived from the Arabic term “alloeh”, meaning “shining bitter substance”. The word “Vera” is derived from the word Latin for “truth”, veritas. In other words, it might not be for everyone. 🙂 However, if your aloe is prepared correctly, it makes a huge difference and goes from what many would consider to be offensive to being a mildly vegetable taste and not tasting like much.

What does raw Aloe Vera taste like?

The bitter truth is that the original name was most likely bestowed because raw Aloe Vera has a bitter, acrid taste. The sweet truth is that the powerful inner gel, with over 200 nutrients, has been used for centuries for its many health benefits both internally and externally and when outer rind is removed and the inner gel is processed properly, it no longer has the bitter taste that led to its name.

If you plan to eat your Aloe Vera raw, you’ll find its taste as most others do—slightly on the bitter side, watery, with a hard to place sweetish bite at the end. It doesn’t taste like fruit juice if you are wondering, but we don’t think you would expect that. If you happen to grow your own plants, the age factors into the degree of bitterness. Younger shoots tend to taste less bitter than the older ones.

Warning: Raw Aloe Vera contains aloin, a potentially dangerous natural chemical with laxative effects. Learn more about aloin before ingesting raw Aloe Vera straight from a plant.

HOW TO MAKE ALOE VERA TASTE BETTER

The good news is that you do not have to eat Aloe Vera raw to enjoy its many health benefits. There are much easier and very palatable ways to consume Aloe Vera. Whether you’re chugging an aloe-based drink, or making an Aloe digestive smoothie, the fact is there are many recipes for Aloe Vera to choose from.

AN EASY ALTERNATIVES TO EATING RAW ALOE

Fortunately, there are several alternatives to eating Aloe Vera raw that are both more convenient and free of any potentially irritating aloin. Find a quality Aloe Vera supplement in capsule form (containing aloe vera gel or dried gel) or an Aloe Vera gel extract. As both capsule and extract offers similar effects, which aloe supplement you want is, for the most part, a personal preference. Capsules are convenient, but some people prefer aloe extract to mix it into smoothies and other foods and some people find that it’s impact are quicker upon consumption. You can also add Aloe juice into smoothies and drinks if you are not a fan of the flavor on its own.

  • Capsules - Easy to take, concentrated, and no taste at all. Busy lifestyles and hectic schedules can make for limited time all around. Aloe vera capsules are a convenient choice for people on the go and still provide all of the amazing benefits of taking raw, organic Aloe Vera.
  • Extract - Pure inner leaf Aloe Vera gel is ground up to create a juice from the inner gel that’s easy to consume along or mix into recipes. Extracts save the time it takes to cut, peel and scoop out the gel from aloe leaves and have also had the bitter aloin from the outer rind removed. If it’s whole leaf aloe juice, you probably don’t want it honestly - it tastes gross and it will cause you stomach discomfort.

What makes AloeCure (as well as our sister company, ALODERMA skin care) products special is how we process our inner gel. Nearly all other Aloe Vera products on the market utilize charcoal filtration or enzymes that they add to ground up Aloe Vera to help remove the aloin. While that might sound fine, it also strips a large amount of the other components naturally found in Aloe Vera during the process. When you see other Aloe Vera Juices that are clear or don’t have any smell or taste, that is almost certainly a sign they have used one of these two methods. While the taste of Aloe Vera isn’t for everyone, it also isn’t overly strong and the reality is that if you aren’t tasting it, you probably aren’t drinking what you think you are.

At AloeCure, we have developed an entirely natural and proprietary process by which we remove all Aloin from our products without the addition of outside ingredients or enzymes or charcoal filtration. AloeCure process all of our aloe within 12 Hours of Harvest from our Organic plantations in order to ensure maximum preservation of nutrients found in wild Aloe Vera.

As with any supplement, several factors should be considered in your decision making process. Check the ingredients and make sure it’s organic Aloe Vera you’re buying. Many Aloe Vera products on the market today contain little or only trace amounts of Aloe Vera. Also, check the label to make sure the capsules, extract or water is not loaded with any unnecessary fillers or additives. Aloe Vera should ALWAYS be the first ingredient on the label or you aren’t drinking what you think you are.
