Canned Salmon Fried Rice: A Flavor-Packed Delight!

12/28/2023 12/28/2023 Nigel Gildon

Isn’t it incredible what you can create with a simple can of salmon? This canned salmon fried rice recipe is a prime example. Incorporating canned salmon into your meals is not only healthy but also adds a burst of flavor. And if you’re looking for another mouthwatering option, check out our Ground Beef Fried Rice and Veggies recipe.

This salmon fried rice is a taste sensation. It’s incredibly easy to make and becomes even healthier (and tastier, in my humble opinion) when using brown rice. However, it’s just as delicious with white rice.

Believe me, after one bite, you won’t want to go back to a restaurant. The convenience of making this fried rice in your own kitchen is unmatched.

A Recipe You’ll Only Need to Refer to a Few Times

Once you make this recipe a couple of times, it becomes second nature. That’s how simple and straightforward this canned salmon fried rice is.

Do you enjoy using canned salmon in your meals? I certainly do. Not only is canned salmon more affordable than fresh salmon, but it also has a delicious flavor of its own. While it may not have the same ocean-fresh taste, it is still packed with flavor and loaded with healthy Omega-3s.

Don’t be deterred by the fact that it’s not freshly caught. Canned salmon is just as nutritious as its fresh counterpart. Plus, it’s already cooked, so you can use it straight out of the can after draining it.

I must admit, I can never resist sneaking a taste of salmon straight from the can. It’s absolutely delectable and completely safe to eat since it’s already cooked. Have you ever tried it? Trust me, it’s a treat!

Options Galore: Canned or Baked Salmon

Feel free to think outside the can for this recipe. While canned salmon is fantastic, you’re not limited to using it exclusively. The goal is to prepare a quick and healthy meal for you and your family, saving you valuable time.

If you have the time and resources, fresh baked salmon works wonderfully too. Just remember to cut it into small pieces before adding it to the rice.

In case you need a baked salmon recipe, here’s a simple one: Baked Salmon Recipe. Of course, you can use any baked salmon recipe you prefer, as long as it yields a couple of fillets.

The Magic of Cold Rice

If you’ve made fried rice before, you know the secret to success lies in using leftover, refrigerated rice. This prevents excess moisture, ensuring your rice stays dry and doesn’t clump together.

If you don’t have any leftover rice, don’t worry. Here’s a tip: cook the rice in the morning or earlier in the day. Use one cup of rice to make the three cups needed for this recipe. Refrigerate it until it’s cold and ready to use later on. For best results, let it chill for at least 3-4 hours. Trust me, it works like a charm.

And one last piece of advice: for the best-tasting fried rice, use long-grain rice like Jasmine rice. I experimented with short-grain rice, but it just didn’t have that authentic flavor I was looking for.

Let Your Veggie Imagination Run Wild

The beauty of this fried rice is its versatility. Feel free to customize it with your favorite vegetables or whatever frozen veggies you have on hand. I opted for frozen peas, but mixed veggies work just as well. You can even omit the veggies if you prefer, although they do add a delightful touch.

Please note: as with most fried rice recipes, adding toasted sesame oil after cooking is a must. Regular sesame oil won’t bring the same depth of flavor. I made that mistake once and learned my lesson. The toasted sesame oil brings out the authentic taste and elevates the dish to restaurant-quality.

Ingredients for Canned Salmon Fried Rice Recipe

To whip up this delicious fried rice, you’ll only need a few basic ingredients. If you already have them in your pantry, you’re all set!

  • 2 (6 oz) cans or 1 (14.75 oz) can of canned wild-caught salmon (drained well)
  • 3 cups of cold brown or white rice
  • 1 cup of frozen veggie mix or your preferred frozen veggies (partially or mostly thawed)
  • Organic canola or vegetable oil (for cooking the eggs and rice) or spray oil
  • 2 eggs or egg whites (lightly beaten)
  • Low-sodium soy sauce
  • Toasted sesame oil (make sure it’s labeled as toasted for maximum flavor)
